How to Make Tissue Paper Flowers

Looking for a fun, easy and inexpensive way to dress up a package or your store window display? Look no further than tissue paper flowers. They resemble a cross between a carnation or peony when the ends are rounded. If you make pointed ends, you can create a chrysanthemum or dahlia look. For my daughter’s 14^th birthday (the one in the middle), we used these tissue paper flowers as party decorations. You can see them behind the girls in the photo below. We even let the girls put some together as a craft. They had so much fun making these, and thought they made great hair accessories as well!

The best part about these flowers is they don’t have to be perfect. The differences in them simply add character to each one. You can add more or less tissue depending on how full you want them to look. You can make mini ones for small gift and jewelry boxes or larger ones for tissue pomanders. And if you mess one up, you’re only out a few cents.

Another fun idea is hot gluing the flowers to any initial letter or shape like this heart or peace sign. Simply cut out poster board, cardboard, or foam board into the desired form. Punch holes in the back for the ribbon to hang. Attach the ribbon by knotting it through the holes (or you may also just tape the ribbon to the back if you don’t want to cut holes). Make all your tissue paper flowers, then hot glue them to your board. Now it’s ready for hanging!
