Tulle tutus have become extremely popular for babies and children. Some people even put them on their pets! Whether used for newborn portraits, weddings or parties, they are just darling.
Nashville Wraps is proud to have several customers who buy our tulle ribbon for these adorable little skirts. We asked designers Kristal Lee and Jennifer Lee of Atutudes and April Todd of Little Miss Princess Tutu to share some insight into their tutu businesses.
Atutudes began when best friends Jennifer and Kristal were planning Jennifer’s baby girl Elan’s 1st birthday party in 2009. (Their husbands are cousins). After looking for just the right tutu and not really finding it, they decided to try making their own, and a business was born.
It was very important for them to find a vendor who offered flame-retardant and lead-free tulle like Nashville Wraps. Kristal commented, “Nashville Wraps is absolutely wonderful to work with, and the quick shipping is great.”
To promote their business, they network heavily through social media sites like Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. They sell their products online only through their Etsy store. Their tutus have been featured in Emmy, Golden Globes & Oscars Celebrity Gift Suites and on Martha Stewart’s “Dreamers Into Doers”.
April Todd shares a similar story. She started Little Miss Princess Tutu in 2007 when she wanted to throw a ballerina-themed birthday party for her then three-year-old daughter. She received so many compliments on the tutus, she decided to make them to sell on eBay. Soon after that, she started her own online store, and even sells her products wholesale to retail stores in the US, Canada, and Australia!
Little Miss Princess Tutu designs can be customized in any color. “Working with Nashville Wraps, I am able to offer my customers many tulle color options,” April explained. “This has been very successful with my flower girl tutu line. I offer brides a tulle color swatch to use to select the perfect shade of the color in their wedding.
Little Miss Princess Tutu advertises on Facebook, Twitter, and various review blogs and gains new customers by offering giveaways and sales. To reach new brides, April has partnered with The Knot to advertise her flower girl collection.
To sum up why April loves her business, “I think you could put a tutu on any little girl (no matter the age) and she will do nothing but smile!”
