With Easter just around the corner, we’re loving these simple cello bags filled with shred “nests” to hold small wrapped treats.
We started with a small gusset-style cello bag – either printed with an Easter design or plain – and a handful of colorful shred. Our Eco-Fill shred or VeryFine Cut shred both work well. We crumpled up the shred into a ball to help it hold together, placed it in the bottom of the bag, then made an indentation in the center of the shred to hold wrapped candy eggs. One of our favorite tricks for working with shred is to have a pair of scissors handy for trimming the stray pieces that stick up. We tied these bags with our brand new 3/8″ grosgrain ribbon in perfect Spring colors. Another wonderful option for closing cello bags is our pre-tied mini satin bows.
A cello bag with a cardboard insert in the bottom works well for holding a chocolate bunny – we put the bunny in first, then added green shred “grass” around his feet. After folding the top of the bag over a couple of times, we punched holes for a ribbon to close the bag.
We also love using our cone-shaped cello bags to make “carrot” treats. Filled with orange popcorn or crackers, these make a great alternative to sugary items. Shown below is our green top bag tied with sheer green ribbon and our large clear bag tied with strips of green paper raffia. We cut a handful of raffia strips and gathered them together with the top of the bag, wrapped a twist tie around this, then covered the twist tie with a band of paper raffia.
We’re hoping Spring arrives soon in your neighborhood!
