Also shown above is our Cotton Curling Ribbon, an eco-friendly ribbon made in the USA from cotton yarn, grown and dyed responsibly with soy-based, non-toxic inks. This ribbon is stiff like paper and curls beautifully with scissors (click here for a how-to video). As I was curling these ribbons, I discovered that if I don’t like the way a curl turned out, I could gently curl the other side of the ribbon to straighten it back out before trying again. I could also straighten it and cut the ends in a V-shape, as I did with the black and white ribbon.
To tie a diagonal ribbon on the front of a shopping bag – our US-made Snowflake Flurry and Holiday Holly bags are shown here – I simply cut a small vertical slit in the gusset (the folded side) of the bag, about 4 inches down from the top edge and about half an inch from the corner. Then I threaded the cotton curling ribbon into the slit, pulled it up and around the front handle of the bag, and tied a bow in the middle. So easy and so cute!
