Dr. Sue Williams is a practicing internist for Baylor University Medical Center, and she’s a chocolatier. You might ask how these two seemingly opposite careers combine? The truth is they go together like nuts and chocolate!
This Abilene, Texas girl grew up on a farm and spent a lot of time with her mother who was an amazing cook and gardener. She taught Sue how to make candies for family and friends. She even entered her yummy confections in the local country fair each year.
Learning the Art & Science of Chocolate
After graduating from Texas Tech, she decided to pursue medical school. Dr. Sue spent years helping critically ill patients and one day decided to do something reminiscent of her childhood. She attended a class in Chicago on the art of making chocolate.
Fascinated by the many health benefits of eating chocolate, Dr. Sue’s entrepreneurial spirit kicked in. She realized she could make a real difference doing the two things she loved: helping people get healthy and making chocolate. Dr. Sue’s Chocolate was born.

Appropriately located in historic downtown Grapevine, Texas just north of Dallas, Dr. Sue’s Chocolates feature fruit-filled gourmet delicacies. Made from premium dark European chocolate, her products have no preservatives or artificial colors, flavor or sweeteners. Instead, Dr. Sue’s uses unique flavor combinations like figs, dried cherries, blueberries and cranberries, coconut, nuts, honey and interesting spices.
Because her chocolate is full of great flavor and wholesome ingredients and antioxidants, people tend to eat less of it. These satisfying treats have become a hit in Grapevine as she has expanded her market into Whole Foods.
