To celebrate the arrival of our new Chevron Gift Bags, I want to show you how easy it is to turn these US-made, food-safe bags into stand-alone gift packages, with the help of a little ribbon, a staple, and a few simple folds. These are especially great for grab & go gifts – you can keep a stash of them next to the cash wrap to encourage last-minute purchases in your store.
First, lay the unopened gift bag in front of you with the foot side facing up, and make a one-inch fold from the top of the bag (slightly smaller than that if you are using one of the smallest bags). Continue to accordion fold the top of the bag until you have made 5 folds. Make a final 6th fold that is about a half as wide as the rest. Open up the bag and fill it with treats or whatever else you have in mind, then fold the top of the bag together again into the accordion folds.
Set the bag up in front of you and squash the accordion fold down, gathering it together in the center. Then, holding one finger in the center, grab the outer corners of the bag with your other hand and pull them up until they meet together – this creates the fan. Pinch the two ends together and secure them with a staple. The fan will have a space in the center to pull a ribbon through. Add your favorite ribbon and tie it in a bow – see this blog for tips on how to tie a bow that will lay straight – or try curling ribbon instead (our Skinny Cotton Curling Ribbon is shown at the top left).
Our classic Gingham gift bags look sweet folded like this as well! I’d also love to try a Paw Print or solid color bag – the orange would be perfect for Halloween treats.
